Babino Polje
Babino polje is the largest and one of the oldest villages on the island of Mljet. Settled in the 7th century by the Croats in the middle of the island, it has grown around the homonymus furtile field which has been used by the locals for farming ever since.
In Babino polje there are several exceptionally valuable historical monuments you should visit. Sotnica, the 14th century courthouse holding a medieval text carvings, Knezev dvor, a 15th century duke's castle and many other churches are showing the medieval archietecture and art in all its glory. Near the village there is a cave, where according to legend, Odysseus took shelter after the shipwreck on his epic journey home.
