Orebic
The Italian family Sabbioncello is concidered to be the founder of town Orebic. In 1586 they had restored a castle inside the fortified settlment, and the town grew in the area surroundig it. Oerbic is above all, mostly known for the wonderful pebble beaches shaded by pine, but also for the major contribution to the Austria-Hungarian navy by giving it 17 of their top captains. Glorifying the rich naval tradition, the Maritime Museum, esatablished in 1957 on a lovely promenade by the coast, exhibits a large collections of items presenting the maritime life in Orebic. Cultural and historical heritage of Orebic can best be seen through the 1752 church of Holy Trinity, the most luxurious baroque chapel in whole Dalmatia, the church of Our Lady of Loreto, one of the largest outside Dubrovnik and the 19th century church of Helper of the Christians. High above the town, beautiful franciscian monastery and the church of our Lady of angels offer a stunning view on the Pelješac channel, islands Korcula, Mljet and Lastovo.
