Island of Solta
Holding countless hidden bays and beaches, Solta is an exceptionally interesting and beautiful island, a home to over hundred species of birds, boars and rabbits. One of them, the owl, is a symbol of the island. Peak of the island, near Gornje selo, 237m above sea level, offers breath taking view on the island and surrounding seven islets. Island had been settled in the 4th century BC under the name of Olyntha, and in Banje bay, the remains of roman buildings can still be seen, but the ancient walls are now under the sea. Island centre is small a charming small town Grohote.
